Back in the days you would either have to call the doctor on
every little issue or gets words of wisdom from your mother/grandmother’s
during your pregnancy, but with the internet these days finding information you
need is as easy as stomping your foot (I would’ve said snapping your fingers, but I
do know people who can’t snap their fingers, but everyone can stomp their
feet. Hell children know how to do it
really well). So getting pregnant and
going through your first pregnancy isn’t as daunting as it used to be, but that
still doesn’t mean it’s easy.
There is tons of reading material available that will tell
you everything you need to know, but reading all that information at once or
even in sections can be too much to take in.
Example: I tried to read “What to Expect When Your Expecting” and just
the first few chapters contained too much information for me to absorb and I
could never get through it. Plus books
like that contain too many “what if” scenarios that scare the shit out of soon
to be moms. No thank you, please keep
those scenarios to yourself, I don’t need to be even more freaked out over
things that will most likely never happen (that’s not to say they don’t happen,
but EVERY pregnancy is different and
not all the same things happen every woman).
Another reason I don’t like reading “informational” material
about pregnancy (ones provided by doctors, reference books, etc.) is because
that information doesn’t feel “real” to me.
I want read stories from real woman who are or have been through the
same thing that I am going through. And
for this reason alone is why I love mommy/pregnancy blogs. The posts in those blogs are “true real”
pregnancy stories that I can relate too.
Posts that contain information about stupid things that I would be to
embarrassed to ask my doc, but that a blogger will have no issues posting about
(because we all know that bloggers have NO SHAME).
I have decided to do a weekly post about the things in my
pregnancy I enjoy (the good), the things that are not so fun (the bad) and the
things that I should be mortified about but will share anyway (the ugly). These posts are going to contain information
that may be graphic and information that may cause you to look at me in a different
light, but I hope you don’t. But if you
do then so be it.
- Hearing my little “bean’s” heartbeat for the first time at my week 11 appointment (what an experience). I have since heard it at every visit and am so tuned into it that I can spot it before the doppler can.
- My morning sickness finally stopped at week 14- woke up one morning and I didn’t’ feel sick. What a relief since I had lost almost 9 lbs because of it and I was fearing that bean wasn’t getting his nutrition
- Seeing my angel in all HIS glory on screen. Yep, we found out we are having a boy! (week 19)
- Feeling my little boy kick for the first time (week 21). I was battling a bad cold and stayed home to get some rest. Sitting on the couch attempting to sleep and all of a sudden POW I felt the first kick. It was like a feeling I have never felt before. Since then he has been alittle soccer player kicking me non-stop, especially when I am talking about him (it’s like he knows)
- “Officially” only gaining 7lbs during this pregnancy as of my week 23 appointment. I say officially since I am using my weight number from before the morning sickness debacle (see #2 above)
Bad
- Realizing that clothes without stretch in them weren’t going to be an option much longer (week 15)
- Realizing that finding “plus size maternity” clothes on a budget was also not an option
- Having a uterus the size of a soccer ball sit on top of my bladder, making me feel like I have to pee every 5 seconds.
Ugly
- Not being able to sleep through the night anymore (week 18). I wake up at least 6 times in the middle of the night to switch sides that I am sleeping on since I was not used to sleeping on my side pre-pregnancy.
- Thanks to said soccer ball (see bad #3) accidents happen (enough said)
